ZipRecruiter is a MightyRecruiter job posting site partner and job aggregator that spans the United States and the United Kingdom. Its audience includes an extensive population of jobseekers located in major cities, such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and smaller cities nationwide. While the ZipRecruiter job posting site is a general job aggregator, it does focus on the needs of small businesses, most of which have less than 500 employees.
More specifically, the job posting site was founded in 2010 with the intention of “helping small businesses distribute job postings affordably.” Today, the job posting site has had more than 1 million employers post job openings on its website and over 120 million jobseekers search for jobs on its platform. With its simple mission statement to help people find meaningful employment, ZipRecruiter has experienced rapid growth and raised more than $63 million in Series A funding.
More than 7 million active candidates visit the website each month to take advantage of ZipRecruiter’s unique features, such as “1-Click Apply,” where users can apply to a job posting with a simple mouse click, and ‘read alerts,’ which send jobseekers text messages when employers have viewed their applications. Much to employers’ benefit, users who post their resumes to their accounts also receive daily email alerts, including reminders to complete unfinished applications or previously viewed job postings.
The ZipRecruiter job posting site hosts openings from a variety of companies, such as Oracle, The Job Window, Peet’s Coffee and Tea, Salesforce, and Citi. It has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and TIME magazine.

Q&A with Scott Garner, ZipRecruiter Corporate Communications Manager
1. How would you describe your job posting platform to hiring leaders who’ve never heard of it?
From the employer’s side, ZipRecruiter is an easy way to post your jobs on every major job site on the web. Employers come to ZipRecruiter, write a job post on our platform, hit ‘post,’ and ZipRecruiter sends it out to the top job boards and social media networks. Recently, we partnered with Google through their new job search tool. We aim for wide reach and high speed.
2. What kind of employers do you primarily cater to?
Small- to medium-sized businesses make up the bulk of our subscribers, but we also have solutions for enterprise customers. ZipRecruiter works for every business, from mom-and-pop stores all the way up to Fortune 500 companies.
3. What differentiates you from other job posting sites on the web?
Our reach is potentially wider than anyone else, or at least just as wide. When a job is posted on ZipRecruiter, it goes out to over 200 job sites, into our job alert emails and to our mobile app users. Our reach is just tremendous--that’s our number one differentiator. The second is our matching technology. A lot of people don’t know this, but we have a sophisticated machine learning algorithm that was developed by ex-Google engineers. This algorithm takes a job, looks at what is required to do that job, and then goes out to find nearby candidates who can do that job. If jobseekers have the mobile app, we will send them an SMS within a few minutes of the job being posted and encourage them to apply.
4. What are the benefits that employers get when their job appears on your platform?
The results of working with us are tremendous – 80% of all jobs posted on ZipRecruiter get a qualified candidate within 24 hours. Anyone can post random ads all over the web but to go out and actively find these people – that’s much more difficult. ZipRecruiter helps employers, and it helps jobseekers. Because as a jobseeker, you can download the app, set up a search, let us know your skills, and we’ll not only go out and find jobs for you but also ping you instantaneously when they’re posted.
5. What do you think the new Google for Jobs news means for your job posting site?
This is a good thing for us because ZipRecruiter has a lot of directly posted jobs, and these postings are what Google is trying to push forth. Google is trying to make the job search process for jobseekers easier, and the way they’re doing that is by servicing directly posted jobs. So, in other words, they’re eliminating all the middlemen from seeding a job in Google, which is where the vast majority of job searches start online, and they’re funneling them to directly posted jobs. And ZipRecruiter has those. So we feel like it’s good for employers and it’s useful for jobseekers. We’re happy to work with them, and we feel like it’s a benefit to everyone.
6. What advice would you give to employers who want their job posting to attract the best candidates possible?
Employers need to think like marketers. First of all, they need to think about their job title: is it clear, is it easily understandable? Or is is so ‘creative’ that jobseekers have to figure out what it means? Use standardized job titles. Second, be clear about what the job entails, so there aren’t any misunderstandings. Give a jobseeker all the information they need to decide whether this job is a good fit for them. Employers complain about getting a lot of irrelevant candidates so to cut down on that be as clear as possible. And you want to sell the job. Right now, unemployment is very low. The labor market is tightening. There are fewer people looking for jobs right now because they have a job. So you need to give people a good reason to leave their current job and come to your company instead of your competitor’s. You are selling a job so think like a marketer. That would be my biggest piece of advice.
7. What’s one thing that hiring leaders might not know about your job posting services?
We try to listen to what our customers say and respond to their needs, which is another thing that differentiates us. Our mission is to make it faster and easier than ever to hire and get hired. Anything we can do to reach that goal, whether it’s Magic 5, working with Google, working with other partners, ATS partners, those kinds of things… that’s our focus. We just really want to make it a better experience. For employers, it’s tough and stressful to go out there and hire, because you want to find the right person. It’s stressful for jobseekers, as well, because if you don’t have a job, you don’t have much. So it’s a critical relationship. For us, we just want to help facilitate bringing those two sides together in a way that minimizes anxiety, stress, and time.
