Advances in mobile technology mean that more job seekers than ever are perusing job ads on their phones or tablets, on their commute to work or while they are multitasking around the house. Catching someone’s attention when they have so many other things going on can be tough, but with more than a quarter of potential applicants using their phones to look for jobs, it’s important to ensure they don’t scroll past your ad.

It is important to convey the important information about the role and ensure that it appeals to job seekers with the skills and experience that you want. Using an effective data analyst job description template can help you to craft an advert which will catch applicants’ attention and sell both the job role and the company.

Recruiting can be costly and time-consuming, so you want to make sure you attract the best candidates the first time with a winning advert.

Job Summary:

Are you a lover of all things data, one who enjoys tussling with—and conquering—complex data sets? If so, then we want to talk to you! We’re looking for a Data Analyst to support borrower acquisition through the building of demand forecast models. You’ll also provide analytical insights to explain performance against business goals; collaborate with our Marketing team to drive business growth; and possess deep analytical experience in demand planning and forecasting, as well as developing segmentation and marketing attribution models. Above all, you must be passionate about leveraging data to drive decision making, and proactively seek opportunities to achieve business results.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Influence key decisions across online marketing programs through robust data analysis, and distilling and presenting actionable insights to all key departments and stakeholders.

  • Create optimal test designs to help quantify the performance of marketing initiatives.
  • Provide support on fulfilling data and metric requests, including development of creative data visualizations to illustrate findings.
  • Deliver ad hoc analyses in support of major business decisions, and translate those analyses into actionable recommendations.
  • Lead projects independently—projects must be led in a fashion that builds consensus while also identifying risks and removing roadblocks.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Management, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics
  • Ability in one programming language (preferably Python)
  • Fluency in big data platforms such as Hadoop, MapReduce, or Hive is a plus

  • Strong analytical and documentation skills

What to Include in a Winning Data Analyst Job Description Template

There are a number of elements to attracting your ideal candidate, so it pays to consider everything from the language you use to the way you present the information on the page. Blocks of text jammed with technical jargon and incomprehensible acronyms may go unread, whereas bullet pointed lists with clear information about the benefits a candidate can expect from your business will make much more of an impact.

Breaking the information up into easy-to-read sections makes your advert easier to read, as you can see from the data analyst job description template above.

Job Summary: This is your first chance to engage the attention of a potential applicant, so make sure that the job title is clear and appealing and describe the role briefly in terms that highlight the benefits to the successful candidate. Include anything that makes this role a better opportunity for a candidate than others in the same sector.

Duties & Responsibilities: Focus on the key tasks that are essential to the role and list only those which are relevant to the specific position. Include details of the reporting structure to give applicants a sense of how the role fits into the bigger picture within the company.

Skills: This section of the data analyst job description template provides the perfect opportunity to review what you are actually looking for in a candidate. Prioritise the essential qualifications and qualities and be mindful of the language you use when describing personality traits to minimise gender bias and make candidates feel as though they want to be part of your team.

Company Overview: Most businesses promote themselves among customers and clients, but this is your chance to sell your business to potential job applicants. Use everything you have, from your social media channels to multi-media, and address candidates directly so that applicants will be able to visualise themselves in the role.
