Best Head Chef Job Description Template

|

The average job-seeker takes about 60 seconds to scan a job description and determine if the position coincides with their abilities, interests and qualifications. Currently, head chef careers are growing at a rate of 9 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), so it’s more important than ever to create a compelling head chef job description template that provides candidates with some type of hook encouraging them to apply.

To do this well, your description needs to be enticing and accurately describe to job seekers why your restaurant is the best place to work. It should describe what it’s like to be a part of your team and what benefits the job offers. Make sure to keep the description candidate-centric; don’t just list the general job duties of a head chef.

Finally, use the head chef job description template below along with several other helpful tips to create your own carefully crafted job posting.

What to Include in a Winning Head Chef Job Description Template

Well-written job descriptions for a head chef should be easy to read and written with marketing language. Remember that you’re trying to sell the benefits of this job and encourage applicants to choose to apply to your opening over other possibilities. Any head chef job description template should contain four key components.

Job Summary: This is the first thing a job seeker is going to read, so it should contain a general overview of the functions of the job with professional language that appeals to their interests and skills. Speak in generalities, and save the really descriptive components for the skills and qualifications list. Write the summary in paragraph form.

Duties & Responsibilities: Now is the time to get specific. Create a list of the daily duties and responsibilities you expect a head chef to complete during the course of a shift. Include who they will be working with most of the time as well as who they report to. Make these action-oriented — an easy way to do this is to start each responsibility with an action verb. These responsibilities should also relate to how their job will contribute to the overall success of the restaurant.

Skills: Create two separate lists formatted with bullets. The first section should contain qualifications that are absolutely necessary, meaning you won’t consider anyone without these critical accomplishments or traits. The other list should contain “nice-to-haves,” or skills that you may prefer in the role but are not deal breakers for applying or interviewing.

Company Overview: This section should communicate exactly why working at your restaurant is ideal. Include specific details about food quality, customer satisfaction and why people love to eat there. Align this section with the restaurant’s existing About Us marketing copy, if it exists.
