Best Salesforce.com Developer Job Description Template

The job market for software developers — including Salesforce.com developers — is booming. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicting demand for workers will outpace supply over the next decade, with 17 percent growth through 2024.

Your job posting is sure to be one of many that the best candidates see during their search. It must provide a compelling reason for candidates to pursue the opportunity rather than clicking on the next job posting. Following the Salesforce.com developer job description template below can help.

Your post should draw in candidates with a job description section that demonstrates the benefits of working for your organization. Rather than providing an itemized list of job duties and responsibilities, focus on the candidates and show them how becoming Salesforce.com developers with your company will advance their careers.

Use the Salesforce.com developer job description template in conjunction with the tips below to craft a job posting that stands out above the competition.

What to Include in a Winning Salesforce.com Developer Job Description Template

People have short attention spans when reading things on the web, so in addition to being informative and compelling, your job description’s formatting should make it easy to read. Try to use lots of white space and bullet points to break up large blocks of text.

Rather than writing one long job description, break it into short sections and start each one with a bold heading:

Job Summary: This is the make-or-break section of your job description because it’s the first thing candidates see when they click on your posting. You’ll want to provide a breakdown of the position here, but do it in a way that lets candidates envision themselves growing their careers with your company.

Duties & Responsibilities: Here, you can provide an itemized list of the day-to-day responsibilities of a Salesforce.com developer at your company. Resist the temptation to give an exhaustive list of duties; instead, narrow your focus and offer a bulleted list of the six to eight primary responsibilities of the job.

Skills: This section is where you’ll let candidates know what they should bring to the table. As in the Salesforce.com developer job description template above, separate this section into skills and experience candidates absolutely must have and attributes you prefer but don’t require them to have. You might want to consider casting a wide net here; software development is a field where sometimes the best candidates aren’t the ones with the most formal education and experience.

Company Overview: Now that you’ve described the job and what you expect from candidates, you can sell them on your company and its culture. This section is the place to convey your mission statement, work atmosphere, unique perks and benefits and anything your company offers that competitors don’t.

Salesforce.com Developer Job Description Writing Do’s & Don’ts

  • Use second person language as opposed to company-focused first-person language to focus your job description on the candidate.
  • Don’t try to get too creative with your job title. Candidates, especially those in technical fields, search for jobs based on specific keywords. A catchy job title might make the position sound enticing, but it doesn’t do any good if the best candidates never see it.
  • Do use SEO best practices to increase your post’s visibility, but avoid stuffing it with programming languages and keywords and sacrificing readability.
  • Don’t set your education and work experience requirements too high. Remember, developers like Mark Zuckerberg didn’t follow normal education and experience channels.
  • Do make use of the Salesforce.com developer job description template above, but don’t be afraid to tweak it to fit your company’s unique needs.
  • Don’t bore candidates with the same technical IT jargon your competitors are using. It all sounds alike after reading a few job descriptions.
