What to Include in a Winning SEO Associate Job Description

Like any job description, your SEO associate listing must be easy and engaging to read. Instead of using long blocks of text, a winning job description should be broken up with bullet points and headings. The best way to organize your description is by using these four categories:

Job Summary: As the first part of your job description, this section must capture the reader’s attention. Give him an idea of what to expect in the role without overwhelming him with minutia about day-to-day life. Too much detail will bore your candidate and lose his attention.

Duties & Responsibilities: If your applicant has read this far, it’s time to dig a bit deeper. Let the reader know what his daily life would be like at your company. Notice how this section on the SEO associate job description template goes into detail about every possible role that the employee could fill.

Skills: The skills section has two parts, and it’s important that you distinguish them. First, list required skills that will immediately disqualify someone who lacks them. For an SEO associate, this could include a statistics or advertising degree. Then, name some qualifications that are desired and would set an applicant apart, like a certain amount of work experience or training on a certain program.

Company Overview: This section is especially important when you are hiring an SEO associate because a wide variety of companies are also looking for your applicant’s skills. You need to show why your company is the best to work for–your unique benefits, mission, or projected growth are all good things to mention here.

SEO Associate Job Description Writing Do’s & Don’ts

  • Do take time to write an interesting first sentence. The SEO associate job description template is a good example of this–a rhetorical question can be a great way to grab the reader’s attention.
  • Don’t list one required degree for your candidate. Successful SEO associates have a variety of backgrounds, including statistics, advertising, and web development.
  • Do go into the specifics of what your company does. SEO associates can manage campaigns for virtually any niche, so make sure that they are aware of your company’s direction.
  • Don’t include an excess of industry buzz words and jargon. Keep it simple and concise.
  • Do include information about which people they will work with and which people they will work for. This could include the marketing division, web development, or sales.
  • Don’t treat your first draft like a final copy. Continually edit the spelling and grammar of your piece until it’s exactly how you want it.
