Job Responsibilities

  • Operate motor vehicles for delivering or transporting people, records, supplies, materials, mail or monetary deposits
  • Drive vehicles and equipment over various types of terrain and roadways, in close quarters, on short and long hauls, through all kinds of weather, in heavy traffic, in controlled environment and at variable traffic speeds
  • Perform maintenance and manual labor, which may include checking for adequate fuel supply, cooling system, oil level, tire wear or damage, air pressure, battery conditions and vehicle cleanliness
  • If transporting people, ensure they arrive at their destination, appointments, hospital or school
  • If transporting goods, load and unload them at the points of origin and destination and understand how to properly load and secure heavy and bulky goods so they do not fall or shift
  • If towing, use proper procedure and tools, which requires familiarity with safety chains, tow bars and hooks
  • Keep logs of vehicle usage, purchases and deliveries
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for the vehicles
