How to Write a Job Description

The above radiologic technologist sample job description gives you a good idea of the types of information to include in a good job posting. However, there are times when you need a little extra help, and the following guidelines will outline the important aspects when writing a top-notch job description.
• Use bullet points whenever possible. This makes the description easy to read for those who are just skimming. Bullet points should be used in the qualifications and responsibilities sections and other sections in which it makes sense.
• Be clear and direct when listing the responsibilities and qualifications. Use action words and stay away from ‘often’ or ‘sometimes’ when discussing job duties. The reader should have a clear idea of what the job entails after looking through the job description.
• Use words and a writing style that match your company’s culture so that you attract individuals who would be a good fit for the position.
• In the company description section, include information that makes you stand out from companies who are advertising the same position. Whether it is a start-up company, employees are welcome to bring their dogs to work, or employees get a free membership at the gym next door, include that in your description.
• Always include a call to action at the end of the job posting. Encourage job candidates to apply and include the name of the hiring manager and the address or online form to use.
• Check with your company policy before publicizing information about salary or benefits.
• Use keywords or phrases to place you higher up on search engines, but don’t use them more than five or six times in the posting.

Radiologic Technologist Job Responsibilities

One thing you have to keep in mind when you are hiring for a radiologic technologist is that you are competing with similar businesses for the same candidates. You want to give these jobseekers a reason to choose your company over the others, and that is why you need a stellar radiologic technologist job description.

Part of a good job listing involves listing out all the radiologic technologist job responsibilities. You need to be selective when choosing what duties to put in the description. You need to include those that the technologist needs to do on a daily or semi-regular basis. If something only requires the person’s attention once a year, then there would be no need to mention it in the job responsibilities section.

You also want to try to pick responsibilities that will contribute to the overall well-being of the organization. You want to give the position a sense of meaning. No matter what level of the organization the role is at, you want to avoid listing duties that are basically busy work. Here are several example responsibilities that would look great in a radiologic technologist job description:

  • Evaluate x-rays and offer diagnosis to doctors
  • Operate radiologic imaging equipment to come up with clear results
  • Record patient data and create reports
  • Explain to patients what certain procedures will entail
Radiologic Technologist Job Specifications

It is frustrating when hiring managers receive many applications from people who are simply unqualified for the job. Employers can avoid this hassle by making it extremely clear on the radiologic technologist job description what skills candidates need to possess by including a job qualifications and skills section. This can include different types of skills. For example, a hiring manager could write the types of software the technologist needs to already be proficient in while another skill is being fluent in a foreign language.

Depending on what you think would be best, you could include two columns to list the radiologic technologist job specifications. One list would be the required qualifications. These are essential, and any candidates lacking them should not even apply. However, you can also have a list of preferred qualifications. These may not be mandatory to excel at the job, but listing them can help separate the candidates who meet the bare minimum from those who are above and beyond.

Some good specifications to put in a radiologic technologist job description include:

  • High school graduate required, associate degree preferred
  • X-Ray Certification
  • Thorough knowledge of radiology principles
  • Excellent visual acuity
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds
  • Willing to take on other responsibilities as needed
