Roofer Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities section of your roofer job description plays a crucial part in finding the best candidate for the job. A well-written job responsibilities section successfully attracts suitable candidates and deters unqualified jobseekers at the same time. As you write this section, begin every line with dynamic action verbs, such as install, manage and perform, to help jobseekers imagine themselves in the role. List the chief responsibilities and specific day-to-day tasks that accompany the position.

Remember to make your roofer job description easy to read and understand by formatting your job responsibilities section with bullet points. Be detailed but do not include more than eight descriptions, as this may overwhelm and scare away potential candidates. Finally, organize your list by order of importance.

To better understand what to include in this section, look at these relevant sample roofer job responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections to pinpoint roofing issues and establish the best methods of reparation
  • Set up necessary equipment and scaffolding and clear out vegetation, debris and other obstacles in preparation of roofing projects
  • Determine the type and amount of materials necessary for roofing projects
  • Install insulation and waterproof materials according to the best practices for each project’s particular roofing system
Roofer Job Specifications

The skills and qualifications section is a small but vital component of your roofer job description. Though a short and concise list, it should be detailed about what candidates need in terms of experience, expertise and education to qualify as candidates for the roofer position. It should also distinguish between “necessary” requirements and “preferred” qualifications. This clears up confusion and helps jobseekers understand whether it is acceptable to apply without a certain qualification or best to move on.

If you are unsure of what the position’s exact minimum requirements are, consult with your hiring manager or someone working in a similar position to make sure this section of your roofer job description is accurate. Be as specific as possible to attract the right candidates and avoid a flood of unqualified applications and resumes.

As you create your skills and qualifications section, consider the example roofer job specifications below:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of three years’ experience in the roofing field
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift and carry loads up to 60 pounds and work in varying temperatures
  • Knowledge of roofing procedures, materials and tools
  • A valid driver’s license and solid driving history
  • Ability to work within a team and meet deadlines
