Child-labor laws are in place to regulate how minors can be utilized in the workplace. The Fair Labor Standards Act contains most of the language concerning this practice, but for the most part, children under the age of 14 are not allowed to be employed. Children between the ages of 14 and 16 can work, but they may only do so in limited hours. Children between the ages of 16 and 18 may work unlimited hours so long as the employment is in a non-hazardous environment. Certain exceptions exist such as children working on a family farm. Child actors and newspaper delivery workers also retain specific exemptions.
