Qualified medical child support order (QMCSO) is an order or decree to provide health insurance coverage for a dependent child, according to a legal agreement or settlement. This type of order would fall under the jurisdiction of a family or domestic relations court or through another administrative agency and comply with federal law as well as state guidelines. It is intended to ensure health coverage through a group insurance plan for the child or minor dependent of the divorced or separated parent or guardian. A QMCSO should include the recipient’s name and last known address as well as an explanation of the medical coverage and the period of time such coverage is to be provided.
